What is heart failure with reduced ejection fraction?
Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction is often referred to as systolic heart failure or left sided heart failure when the heart fails to pump blood forward leading to the pooling of the blood in other organs. This can lead to cor pulmonale or fluid in the lungs and also cause manifestations of right sided heart failure such as peripheral edema and jugular venous distention on physical examination.
