Question:

Anakin and Obi-Wan are simplifying the expression below. -2 (3x – 2x + 8y) Anakin thinks the simplified expression is -6x – 4x – 16y and Obi-Wan thinks the simplified expression is -2x – 16 y. Who is correct and why?

Answer:

Obi-Wan is correct. When Anakin distributed the -2 to -2x he left the negative sign and when distributing negatives, the signs of the values on the interior of the parentheses change to the opposite. Obi-Wan did distribute, correctly, and then he simplified it by combining like terms.

Question:

Should you spend hours studying at one time or break it up into chunks; and why?

Answer:

You should break studying up into chunks and give yourself small breaks between. If you study in chunks you are able to focus more on the information at hand and will do a better job of retaining it. With the breaks in-between, you're taking a "brain break" and allowing yourself to reset with a fresh focus to begin again.
