Tutor profile: Candace S.
Tutor for 5+ years & college instructor
Tutor Satisfaction Guarantee
Hi! My name is Candace, and I have been tutoring students going on 5+ years. I hold an M.A. in Communication from Johns Hopkins University and currently teach communication at a community college. In addition to teaching communication, I also assist students with writing and revising essays, as I hold a B.A. in English. When I'm not tutoring or teaching, I love horseback riding, playing guitar, and reading.
Back in 2013, I started working as a peer tutor where I went to undergrad, mentoring students in writing to introductory sociology and psychology. During my third year at the learning center, I was promoted to tutor coordinator, which allowed me to train my fellow tutors and coordinate additional learning opportunities for students. Thereafter, in 2017, I spent a year working as a professional writing tutor at a prestigious private college. Today, I am an adjunct instructor and faculty tutor at a community college.
Johns Hopkins University
2015 - 2017
2011 - 2015
Mt. San Jacinto College, Adjunct Instructor
2020 - Present
As an adjunct instructor for the Department of Communication, I have the opportunity to share my knowledge of communication with students by teaching entry-level communication courses, such as Interpersonal Communication and Public Speaking. I also assist students one-on-one basis as a faculty tutor for the Menifee campus's communication lab.
ClikFocus, Web Content Writer
2018 - 2019
ClikFocus is a small software development team based in Colorado Springs. My role here was to attract clients through blog posts, eBooks, and other written web content. I also managed the organization’s social media accounts on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram to further promote that content and raise brand awareness.
Colorado College, Professional Writing Tutor
2017 - 2018
My primary role as a professional writing tutor was to assist students who needed help with more intensive assignments, such as their undergraduate theses, or those who desired help from a professional over a peer. I primarily critiqued students’ essays in one hour, one-on-one sessions, but I was also a teaching assistant for two tutor training classes.
Radford University, Tutor Coordinator
2015 - 2016
Once I graduated with my B.A., I assisted in managing 40~ tutors and graduate students to ensure the center operated effectively. I also supervised the training of tutors in person and online (Desire2Learn) to increase tutoring success, as well as organized workshops to promote the learning center and offer additional learning opportunities for students.
Radford University, Peer Tutor
2013 - 2015
As a student, I worked one-on-one with my peers through writing and revising academic essays to improve composition skills. In addition, I also critiqued and counseled students’ work in other subjects, such as psychology and sociology, to increase their level of overall academic achievement.
