My name is Shelley McKinney and I am a married mother of three, one of whom is a foster son. My children are all in their early to mid-twenties and my husband and I are enjoying our (almost) empty nest. Teaching has been my chosen career path since childhood, and I'm excited by the idea of teaching in a world-wide venue instead of a traditional classroom.
I have had a varied and I interesting teaching career. I taught English (literature, grammar, composition) for several years in a public high school in Indiana, as well as two summer sessions in grammer/composition at a private military school. I then got the chance to move closer to my aging parents, and took a job in my hometown at a Christian elementary school affiliated with my church. The Traveling Teacher was another business I started, and as the name suggests, I took on venues in the Indianapolis area - private homes, public libraries, civic conference rooms and even a couple of banks! - to teach various courses in literature and composition to a variety of students in different parts of the city. I started The Shakespeare Workshop as my own bona fide business. In the workshops, which were three hour classes held one day a week for six weeks (one play per workshop), the students and I covered many of Shakespeare's plays, discussing characters, the five points of Freytag's Pyramid and how the plot of the particular play we were studying fit into that classic format, watching various productions of the plays on DVD, and going to see a great many plays performed on stage at the Indiana Repertory Theater, the Indianapolis Civic Theater,
