Question:

How can you help me? I get nervous while taking tests.

Answer:

I am here to help you not only with content knowledge, but with test-taking skills and strategies as well. When we get nervous, something called our affective filter gets raised, and makes it extremely difficult to access the language that is stored in our brain. We will practice relaxation techniques, as well as skills to build the confidence you need to lower your affective filter and access all the English you've learned in our lessons and elsewhere!

Question:

Learning a language takes a long time, how can I speed up this process?

Answer:

There are many ways to facilitate more rapid learning of a language, but you have to do two things: (1) Focus where you put your energy. I help my students learn by building lessons around the most common words in Spanish, so that they will understand a large percentage of the language with just 100-1000 words. (2) Be ok with being uncomfortable. Read in Spanish, watch TV in Spanish, and find some groups to meet up and speak Spanish - even if you don't feel like you're ready! Worst case scenario is that you'll become more familiar with the sounds of the language, and learn a word or two. Immersion is key and is possible no matter what part of the globe you live in.
