Question:

How does one add patterns into a shape? From there, how does one recolor and resize?

Answer:

Select the desired object. Find the "swatches" icon. Here you can find an array of categories ranging from color pallets to simple dots to animal prints. Select the desired pattern. To change color, Edit > edit colors > recolor artwork. Change the colors by double clicking the swatches under "new". To change the size of the pattern, follow object > transform > scale. When the new window opens, deselect "transform object" so only the pattern's size will change. Change the scale with the % box.
