Why study a dead language?
It's interesting for one--you can learn about history from a textbook all you like, but only through studying a language are you in active communication with the likes of Julius Caesar, Livy, Ovid, and Cicero. By studying a "dead language" you are interacting with primary sources of history. Alongside that, Latin really is quite a useful language for things like learning Romance languages or even vocabulary (especially for the SAT and ACT!)
