Question:

Please describe the pathway of blood through the heart and where the blood receives oxygen. (Dont forget the valves!)

Jacki D.
Answer:

Deoxygenated blood enters the heart through the vena cava, the largest vein, and dumps into the right atrium. The blood is then pumped through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle. The valve shuts and the right ventricle then contracts and sends blood through the pulmonic valve and into the pulmonary arteries. Blood has now reached the lungs through the pulmonary arteries and leaves the lungs through the pulmonary veins. The oxygenated blood is then dumped into the left atrium and pushed through the bicuspid valve into the right ventricle. The right ventricle contracts and is sent through the aortic valve into the aorta and sent through the rest of the body.
