Question:

What is the pathway for sound conduction through the outer, middle and inner ear?

Inactive

Answer:

Sound is first collected by the cartilagenous pinna, and then funneled down the ear canal where it reaches the tympanic membrane. The tympanic membrane then vibrates the three bones of the middle ear: the mallus incus and stapes. Which ultimately vibrate the oval window of the inner ear, or chochlea. The choclea is a fluid filled space consisting of two membranes which coil in like a snail. The cochlear basilar membrane contains hair cells which are epithelial cells which connect to the auditory nerve via a chemical synapse. Movement of the liquid in the chochlea results in movement of the hair cells which increases the release of the neurotransmitter at the synapse.
