Answer:

During the French Revolution, french women were able to fight alongside men for equality. While they did not achieve complete equality, they made huge steps- the right to divorce, inherit money and in some cases, own property. When Napoleon ended the Revolution, he also ended this progress through the Napoleonic Code. Napoleon took away divorce, and inheritance rights in his comprehensive law code.

Question:

In what ways did the Protestant Reformation contribute to the era of the witch hunts in early modern Europe?

Answer:

The Protestant Reformation ushered in an era of faith that was more accessible to the every day person in Europe. This heightened belief in God also lead to a heightened belief in the devil and/or evil. The political turmoil brought on by the Reformation added more fear and uncertainty to an already confusing time period. For the uneducated, common people, it was easy to see this turmoil as the work of dark forces. Those holding religious power often used this fear to bolster their status.
