Solve for X and reduce to the simplest term. 6X + 4X + 5X = ?
All of the numbers in the equation have one "X." This means that they are like terms. You can ONLY put together like terms. For example, if there was 6X + 4X^2 = ? You could not add them together because they do not have "like terms." Since all of the numbers in the question have one X, they can be added together. 6X + 4X + 5X = 15X.
Subject: Basic Math
In what order do the functions of equations must they be solved by?
The basic acronym for math functions is PEMDAS. There are sayings such as "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" to try to help you remember the PEMDAS acronym. PEMDAS stands for parenthesis, exponent, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. The first step is to start with "P" parenthesis. You work your way down the acronym to fit the problem you are trying to solve. For example, (2+3) X (4+2) - 5 = ? The answer is 25. Start with the parenthesis which is 5 and 6. Then, multiply 5 and 6 together which is 30. Now subtract 5 from 30 and the answer is 25.
