Subject: World Geography
Why should you learn about world geography?
The world we're living in right now can feel as complex, chaotic and unpredictable. Globalization and technological advances like the internet have turned the world into a 'global village'. The predominant paradigm of 'neoliberalism' has turned citizens into consumers and competitors from each other, who continually strive for more (the newest iPhone, the best status job etc.) in order to feel fulfilled. The consequences of this paradigm can be seen throughout the world: a growing income inequality, a plastic soup in the oceans, the depletion, and degradation of the Earth, burned out and depressed people looking for meaning in their lives. Us vs Them thinking, fearmongering and individualism have become prevalent in today's world making its citizens more polarized, biased, narrow-minded and short-tempered. It is my mission to rupture this mentality. As an experienced world traveler and geography teacher, this gives me the opportunity to accomplish thisp[urpose. I want to inspire my students and broaden their horizons. My biggest strength is to create a safe and challenging learning environment aimed at 1. expanding and deepening (human) geography knowledge 2. cultivating curiosity about and appreciation for other opinions, beliefs and norms & values 3. critical thinking skills, 4. self-reflection and 5. adopting a multiperspective view on phenomena. Let's embark on this journey together!
