Subject: Microsoft Suite
Why is Microsoft Suite important?
Learning to use Microsoft Suite is important because it helps us in so many ways. In school, we use it for assignments. Being a proficient user in Word, PowerPoint and Excel can mean a good grade on an assignment. After school, these things are just as important and employers expect that you know how to use these platforms for writing reports or keeping track of analytics or presenting something at a conference.
Subject: Library and Information Science
What is information literacy?
Information literacy is the skill of using online library tools to help with research. Information literacy is learning about finding information, evaluating that information, using that information, and citing that information. To learn how to do this, I teach students how to use keywords and boolean operators for finding the best information on their topic. I teach students how to use the online library catalog to find books and articles. I then teach students how to evaluate these sources by looking at dates, authors, and format. Finally, I teach students the best way to source their materials when they are using them in papers for assignments. All of this is information literacy and it is an important skill.
Subject: Personal Finance
What is personal finance?
Personal finance is the understanding of all things money-related and how they can be applied to your daily life. My first approach to helping others learn about personal finance is to learn about debt, budgeting, savings, credit, and spending. Understanding the basics of these things helps you to learn more complex topics, like investing.
