Why can't I get As in my classes that have a cumulative (or covering all past topics) tests when I study 4 hours straight every single day?
It's because you're studying 4 hours straight. After a certain amount of time, your brain will, for the most part tune out of new information. Instead of focusing on doing a solid 4 hours, try doing at most 25 minute study sessions with a minute long break that are focused on certain topics. Now your studying is more focused, and your less overwhelmed by large amounts of information. Hint: If 25 minutes is too much for you, try 20 or 15. Different people need different amounts of time and that's ok.

The black peppered moth is on decline while the white peppered moth is making a comeback. Why is that a good thing for the environment?
The black peppered moth is a type of moth that is discolored. When there is low pollution, it is easy for them to be seen by bird that eat them as they live on light colored lichen. When there is high pollution the moths are less likely to be seen on trees. The black peppered moths being in decline is positive because were successful because of high pollution. Without high pollution they are no longer as successful. Therefore, their decline is a good thing for the environment because it shows a decline of pollution levels.

Johnny has 36 apples and buys 1 every day. He eats 14 apples a week. How many days does it take for him to finish all the apples?
Step 1 making everything the same There is one number that isn't the same as the others. 14 apples per week. We need everything to be either in days or in weeks. Since our answer is going to be in days, we're going to change 14 apples per week into it's apples per day form. To do this we do I heart math. 14 apples 1 week ________ x ______ 1 week 7 days 14 is on the top because we're trying to find apples per day. 1 week/ 7 days is our conversion factor. 1 week equals 7 days. so 1 week/7 days. We have 1 week on the top because we want to have weeks on the top and weeks on the bottom. If we were trying to find how many days in a week, we'd use 7 days/ 1 week instead, or 7. When we multiply this fraction together we get: 14 apples x 1 week ______________ 1 week x 7 days and cancel out 1 week is on the top and the bottom so they cancel out, and they leave us with 14 apples ________ 7 days After we simplify, we're left with 2 apples/day Step 2 Now we make an equation x is our amount of days 36 is the amount of apples that Johnny had. -2x is the amount of apples he ate over x amount of days +1x is the amount of apples he bought over x amount of days 0 is for the amount of apples left This leaves us with the equation: 0= 36- 2x+1x ((EXTRA EXPLANATION -2x and 1 x have an x next to them because, remember 2 and 1 were the amount of apples Johnny bought and ate per day. To turn that speed of eating into actual apples you have to times it by the amount of days that passed. But, because we don't know how many days have passed, we'll leave them with an x, for now. -2x is being subtracted because that's what he's taking out of his kitchen versus 1x, which is added because he'd adding those apples to his kitchen )) Step 3: Simplify again 0=36-2x+1x can be simplified. -2x and 1x are the same, therefore, we can simply leaving us with: 0= 36-1x Step 4, X needs to be alone Now that the equation is the simplest it can be, we are going to move all the x's to the same side. In this case, we'll do it, via, addition. 0= 36-1x +1x= +1x The -1x and the +1x cancel out on the 36 side and the x and 1x add up together, leaving you with: x=36 Step 4 Recheck Now the second most important part. Check your work. We'll do that by putting 36 everywhere x was. So the equation will be: 0=36-2x36+1x36 0= 36-72+36 0 = 0 With that, you have the answer to the question: 36 days. Step 5 Reread the question. What is the question asking you to find? It's days, so we're done. Our answer is 36.
