Question:

Your health insurance is 30 days late and your child has had a bad cough for over a week now. You also received an eviction notice this week and you do not know where to take your family if you are kicked out. You have only enough cash to pay for one or the other. What do you do? P.S. There is always a woman's homeless shelter, but your kids will be placed in foster care.

Dustin S.
Answer:

My child's health Trumps almost anything in this world, but the only thing that has been keeping this family together is that we get to be together. So, I pay the landlord and we are good for another 30 days. I go to the local library over my lunch hour for the next three days and research how to get cheaper health insurance. While I was there, I met a nurse who was studying to get her RN certification. I told her my story and she told me to come to her hospital and she would get my child the meds they need to get healthy. I couldn't be more grateful. In life its not what you know, its who you know, and I get to survive for another month.

Question:

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of Jack's best movies, but that movie did more than entertain us. What other meanings can you take away from the movie? Watch the movie and break down each scene for me.

Dustin S.
Answer:

When I broke the movie scene by scene what I really saw is a movie that was sending us a message that mental health is a problem that we perceive that can be fixed. Mental health is not something we can fix with surgeries and medication. It is something that needs constant therapy and more understanding as it affects millions of people in this country. Our world has come a long way since this movie was first released, but there is still a need for more understanding in this world when it comes to mental health.

Question:

In education today there are many challenges, with one of those challenges being how to create a respectful and well behaved classroom, while still challenging the students academically. How would you do that if you were a teacher?

Dustin S.
Answer:

If I had my own classroom the first and most important thing I would do with my students is create a relationship. I believe once the relationship is established it makes the rest of teaching a little easier. Now I am not saying relationships fix everything, but it is definitely a solid foundation to start from. From that foundation, I would say if I want it, I need to teach it. I need to assume nothing and remember that I am preparing these students for the future.
