Is letter recognition more important than phonemic awareness?
Phonemic awareness should precede all things related to reading. This is because phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate the sounds of spoken language. If a student lacks phonemic awareness then letter recognition will be very difficult to learn as they do not have the ability to associate the specific sounds to the letter. Whether a student is reading silently or aloud, if that student does not have phonemic awareness mastered, it will be a struggle. Phonemic awareness and letter recognition both go hand in hand, but phonemic awareness must come before anything else if a student is to be successful in their reading.
Is the transition from middle school English to high school English difficult?
The transition is only as difficult as the student makes it. If the student has a strong foundation of the English language and the many factors that it consists of before high-school, then that student will not struggle tremendously. However, if the student did not receive a quality education in his/her prior grades regarding the English language, meaning they did not receive proper strategies to prepare them for high school, then that student will definitely struggle.
Why is education important to you?
It is important because it is the key to a world that opens up a tremendous amount of doors and assists those who take advantage of their education by fostering a sense of self-thought, self-reflection, and consciousness in the mind.
