Subject: Study Skills
Beyond reading and reviewing the material before a test, what is one of your more effective studying techniques and why?
In addition to reviewing the material, elaboration is an effective studying technique. This method encourages the student to explain the concept in more detail. This can be done by the student asking him/herself open ended questions, through a class discussion, or by talking about the topic to a study partner or family member. This is often effective, because after review the topic, the student can hear it as they explain it, they'll need to think about they reviewed so they can elaborate on it. Thinking about the topic more in depth like this, will help the student recall the information on the test better because they'll be more likely to remember the content after having taken the action to remember it.
