When Adolf Hilter's "expansion" of Germany began, what land did he first take control of besides Austria? What was his argument for doing so? How did the League of Nations respond?
Hitler's first objective was to obtain the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia. His rationale was that the Sudetenland had a majority of ethnic Germans and that they should be part of Germany. The League of Nations responded by allowing the annexation of the Sudetenland to Germany with a pledge from Hitler for peace. While Hitler made this peace pledge, he had no intention of keeping it and later went on to invade Poland among others.
In the novel of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, the word daemon is used to refer to the Creature. What does this word imply in its original usage? How does its substitution with demon change how the Creature is represented to the reader?
The word daemon, in its original usage, is associated more with a guardian-type spirit, neither generally good or evil. In the original text, use of this word implies that the Creature is not an evil being by default, but instead is a more neutral character that is misunderstood. Yet, when the word daemon was substituted with the word demon in more recent prints, the text is given a very different image. Demons are associated with evil, malicious beings that are known for their trickery. By using this word in association with the Creature, the character is transformed into a uncontrollable, monster that intends to cause misfortune as opposed to the original neutral being the word daemon implied.
