Find the domain of the following functions: a) p(x) = 1/x+1 b) f(x) = x^2 +1
Solution: a) Since p(x) is a rational function, we have to recall we need to set up the denominator to zero in order to find the domain of it. Therefore: x+1 = 0 => x = -1. Dom(p) = x is all real numbers excel x = -1. Also, there is an asymptote occurring when x = -1. b) Since f(x) is a polynomial function the domain is all real numbers.
Find the derivative of the following function: f(x) = (X^2 +7)^2
First, we have to notice that we need to apply the chain rule. Therefore the solution is: f'(x) = 2*(x^2+7)*2x = 4x*(x^2+7)
