English seems to be a complicated language for me to learn. Why is it so hard?
Like most languages, English has a lot of different words that mean the same thing -- synonyms. Use a thesaurus to find a list of words that all mean the same idea or similar idea. Another challenge can be the understanding of idioms and colloquial language. Idioms can be very difficult for a learner to understand so you will need to study these a bit more than the everyday English used for general conversations.
Subject: English as a Second Language
English grammar is difficult for me to understand. What should I do?
Tell your tutor what grammar problems you are having trouble with so he/she can prepare lessons for you to help you. Ask your tutor for recommended websites where you can learn about grammar. Do not worry about speaking English with perfect grammar. The more you study and use the language, the better your grammar will become. The most important part of learning English is to speak and practice so your tutor can understand what grammar problems you have and then help you.
What can I do to learn how to speak and understand English sooner?
It is important to read, listen, and speak at least 10-15 minutes of English every day. Ask your tutor for helpful learning materials and websites where you can practice your English. Join a group of other learners and practice speaking online using video calls. Remember, studying just 10-15 minutes every day plus your weekly lessons with your tutor will help you to learn to speak English sooner.
