What areas of nursing can you as a tutor help with?
If it was covered in BSN coursework, I can help! As a school of nursing instructor myself, I know what is expected when completing nursing careplans, as I grade these myself. I also love to help nursing students with med math, test prep, nursing pharmacology or pathophysiology, nursing skills, or heath assessment. I can also help with resume writing for nursing and help students explore career options.
What experience do you have teaching pre-algebra? Why is this subject important?
My first math student over 10 years ago was an adult learner studying pre-algebra. I continued to work with this student through Algebra 2 and to see his progress was astounding. This topic is so important because it lays the groundwork for the rest of middle-school math and beyond. A tutor who is passionate about the topic can make-or-break how a student feels about math in general.
What is your strategy regarding supporting students who are learning algebra?
I find that the best way to teach students algebra is to first determine what the student already understands about the question or topic. I then look to help the student discover what they are challenged by and then I can step in and help bridge that gap. Algebra is a brand new world of math to students and I love sharing my excitement with them.
