36 + 3x = 5x + 40
This is a simple algebra equation! We will work together to get this figured out. The first step to solve this one is to get all the x's on one side and all the other numbers on the other side. I am going to begin by subtracting 36 from both sides. 36 + 3x = 5x + 40 -36 -36 --------------------------- 3x = 5x + 4 Now I am going to subtract 5x from both sides to get all the x's on one side! 3x = 5x + 4 -5x = -5x ------------------- -2x = 4 Now I need to divide 4 by -2. 4/-2 = -2 So, our answer is x = -2 If we want to double check that answer, we can plug -2 in for x in our first equation!

What are the 5 components of phonological awareness?
Phonological awareness is a very important concept to grasp if you are a teacher of elementary aged students! There are five basic components that students need to master. 1. Phonemic Awareness. A phoneme is the smallest unit of spoken language, so phonemic awareness is how letters and sounds interact. Students learn to manipulate sounds and letters as they develop in their phonological awareness. An example of phonemic awareness is breaking up the word "cat" into the sounds /k/ /a/ /t/. 2. Phonics. Phonics is the way that letters represent different sounds, and is essential for successful reading. For example, students need to know that the letter combination "ch" makes a unique sound, unlike the individual sounds of "c" or "h". 3. Fluency. Fluency is the ability for the student to read with ACCURACY, SPEED, AND PROSODY (or expression). Students need to demonstrate that they can read at a correct speed with accuracy. Prosody is their ability to maneuver their voice when asking a question or using exclamation marks. 4. Vocabulary. Vocabulary is the words that the students are able to recognize and read, and also know what they mean. This is pretty closely tied to comprehension. 5. Comprehension. This is when the student is able to demonstrate understanding for what they just read. In order for successful comprehension, all other elements of phonological awareness have to be implemented correctly.
