Question:

In regard to the moon jelly life cycle, what are the pro's and con's to asexual reproduction?

Inactive
Kelsey R.
Answer:

In the moon jelly life cycle, they are able to both sexually and asexually reproduce. The benefit, or pro, to their asexual reproduction is the idea that neither of the two sexes need to be present in order to reproduce. Asexual reproduction can ensure that population levels remain high, regardless of male to female ratio. However, this also has drawbacks- if there happens to be something wrong within the genetic code, a mutation or disease, then it can potentially cause an entire population to crash at some point, or to potentially adapt in a non-beneficial way.
