Question:

How would you define and justify companion cases?

Inactive
Samantha B.
Answer:

Companion cases are used when two cases are being tried over the same issue or precedent like Roe v. Wade and companion case Doe. v. Bolton, Roe struck down Texas's abortion ban as unconstitutional while Doe did the same to Georgia's similar laws. The justification for companion cases is that by using these cases in conjunction with one another a new precedent can be made, which then saves time and prevents the judicial system from being waterlogged by cases that would all reach the same conclusion in due time.

Question:

Why are incumbents elected at a higher rate than newcomers?

Inactive

Answer:

Incumbents typically have better access to resources due to their already established relationships within the government system. While newcomers can bring new ideas to the table, they don't have as much exposure as incumbents so constituents who are not as hard focused on policy will be more likely to vote for a face they know then one they don't.
