How do I develop a body paragraph for an essay?
A paragraph should be one cohesive idea. First, start off with one sentence that clearly states the point you are trying to make. Then, follow that sentence with a couple of sentences that explain your point and give specific examples of what you are talking about. Finally, end your paragraph with one sentence that connects back to your first sentence. You may also want to include a transition that prepares your reader for your next paragraph. Your paragraph should only discuss the topic that you started with. If you want to change the topic, you need to start a new paragraph and use transitions to connect your ideas.
What was Shakespeare's view of women? Was Shakespeare a feminist?
Though we cannot say for certain what Shakespeare's views were, there are several examples of strong female roles in Shakespeare's plays. One example is Lady Macbeth: she was treated as an equal by her husband and was even able to convince him to murder the king. However, Shakespeare was still conscious of the way his society saw women. In one scene, Lady Macbeth calls upon the spirits to "unsex" her so that she may take action without mercy.
How can I use a semi-colon in my writing?
Semi-colons can be used to show a stronger connection between two sentences by separating the two with a semi-colon instead of a period: The investigators were not convinced by suspect's testimony; they suspected there was more to the story. Semi-colons can also be used as a Super Comma in a list that already includes commas: I love to travel. I have visited places such as Houston, Texas; Red River, New Mexico; and New York City, New York.
