Tutor profile: Stephanie S.
How do you help your students succeed in their ISEE exams.
I have tutored ISEE from Primary to Upper levels for many students. I follow a systematic approach where I teach the skills for each type of question that appears on the exam. Students become familiar with the concepts in the reading and each type of math problem. I also teach vocabulary roots and how to identify words using context clues and other strategies.
Subject: English as a Second Language
How does your experience qualify you to be an English as a Second Language tutor?
I have been teaching English as a Second Language as a public school teacher for 4 years as well as a volunteer teacher in Hungary for 6 summers. I have experience integrating speaking, listening, reading, and writing to an encore of subjects and engaging students in my lessons through interactive activities, videos, and role-plays. I believe that each student brings something unique into the classroom or session and celebrate differences in learning, culture, and personality.
How do you typically tutor English lessons?
For Reading, I typically create lessons that focus on skills needed to succeed at my student's current reading level, as well as vocabulary, phonics, comprehension and word work. Once students demonstrate mastery, we will move onto the next level. In Writing, I focus on skills required by state standards and work on sentence writing, paragraph and essay structure, and short response. I create templates and sentence frames for my students as we write.
