Question:

Suppose, you're looking out at the alien spaceship that is hovering outside your house. If you're looking up at an angle of elevation of 60 degrees and the spaceship is 2000 meters above the ground, how far away is it from your house right now?

Answer:

Haha, this is a fun one. Simple, make a right triangle with the bottom acute angle = 60 degrees (ur angle of elevation) and the vertical leg is 2000. Use trig to find the horizontal leg x which is how far the spaceship is from your house. So tan(60) = x / 2000 so x = 2000 * tan(60) = 2000 * sqrt(3) = 3,464.10 meters away!

Question:

Simple but surprising how many people will mess this up: What is half of 648?

Answer:

This is one of my favorite "hacks" when it comes to finding half. Since all the digits of this 3-digit number are even, we can just treat this as 3 separate "baby problems" :) So what is half of 6. It's 3! What is half of 4. It's 2! What is half of 8. It's 4! Now, put them together & half of 648 is 324! Tada!

Question:

Disclaimer: this one is based in reality, albeit very simplified but whatever! Since all the gyms are closed during this quarantine, Ahmed is taking his personal training business online. If his total costs are $500 each month & he charges $50/hr, what will his profit be in April 2020, when he trained 20 clients for 30 hours total?

Answer:

The function p(c) = 50t - 500 models Ahmed's profit for the month as a function of t, which is the number of hours he trained clients. Now, if t=30 hrs, profit = 50(30) - 500 = 1500 - 500 = $1000 profit for the month of April 2020
