Question:

When is it appropriate to use semicolons?

Inactive
Rebecca S.
Answer:

A semicolon should be used to link two related parts of a sentence, but where a regular comma is not appropriate. Think of a semicolon as an afterthought to the first part of sentence that needs highlighting. They are both part of the same sentence but they are independent clauses.

Question:

What is the difference between regular quavers /eight-notes and quaver/eight triplets?

Answer:

Regular quavers /eight-notes represent essentially 1/2 a crochet / quarter not beat each. Typically they are played in pairs, therefore making a whole crotchet /quarter note beat together. Triplets differ in that there are 3 quavers /eight-notes that are played in the time of 2 quavers /eight-notes. They are therefore played a little bit faster than regular quaver /eight-notes.

Question:

What is the difference between diagetic and non-diagetic music in Film music?

Inactive
Rebecca S.
Answer:

Music for film can be split into two categories: diagetic and non-diagetic music. Diagetic music is music that is part of the film itself which the characters also hear and react to. A good example of this is the canteena scene in Star Wars: A New Hope where the band play in the bar and the characters (and therefore audience) hear them. Non-diagetic music is the music that is scored and played outside the film and heard only by the film audience.
