The Columbian Exchange. Europe had cows, chickens, horses, sheep, pigs, wheat, barley, oats, rice, and more. The Americas had potatoes, tomatoes, corn, turkey, deer, tobacco, and more. The Americas were significantly poorer in domestic animals.

Why did the first and second industrial revolutions differ so drastically in Russia compared to the other leading industrial nations of Europe?
A reliance on serfdom by Russian aristocracy kept Russia as a primarily agricultural nation longer than it would have been. Other nations at this time were seeing a significant increase in movement from farms to cities, which was hampered due to the situation of the serfs. Tensions between the aristocracy and the Tsar would continue to make reforms difficult.
