About Thomas

About Thomas
In a few weeks, I will be graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Biology from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, before moving to Los Angeles in the fall to begin pursuing my PhD in Molecular Toxicology at UCLA. I have worked in an organometallic chemistry laboratory for all four years of my undergraduate career and wrote and defended my honors thesis based on this research. I love organic chemistry and biochemistry and am looking to continue working as a tutor remotely now that I am no longer...

Teaching Experience

Teaching Experience
I have worked for the past three years as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the organic chemistry laboratory course at Emory University. This past year, I have been working with a class that is tailored towards first year students, but over the years I have worked with undergraduate students of all levels. Additionally, I have worked as an organic chemistry tutor for the past three years through the accredited Emory Pathways to Academic Success for Students program, during which time I have worked with more than 150 different students...

Work Experience

Work Experience
Emory University Department of Chemistry, Organic Chemistry Laboratory Teaching Assistant
2017 - 2020
I have worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant each year since my sophomore year in college for the undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory course. My job entailed working with students in small groups and helping a graduate student instructor manage a course section of approximately 30 students each semester. On a less frequent basis, I have also proctored exams and assisted faculty instructors with administrative tasks associated with running the course.
Emory University - Emory Pathways to Academic Success for Students Program, Organic Chemistry Tutor
2017 - 2020
I have worked as an organic chemistry tutor for undergraduate students through Emory's EPASS program, which provides accessible tutoring for all students at the university. I have worked with more than 150 different students, most of whom were on a repeating basis.
Emory University Department of Chemistry, Undergraduate Research Assistant
2016 - 2020
I have worked as an undergraduate research assistant at Emory University since my first year in college. I have pursued projects related to transition metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization and chiral catalyst design. I recently wrote and defended my honors thesis based on this research and will be graduating summa cum laude next month.
Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Visiting Undergraduate Research Assistant
2019 - 2019
I spent three months at KAIST in Daejeon, South Korea last year pursuing research in computational chemistry related to transition metal-catalyzed regioselective C-H functionalization. This work was also incorporated into my honors thesis.
