During rains, the excess fertilizers from agricultural fields are mixed with the run-off and end up in water bodies. After reaching there, these chemicals promote excessive growth of algae leading to eutrophication which depletes the water of all the nutrients and oxygen, thus killing the marine life beneath. Besides this, fertilizers damage soil structure and does not promote the growth of friendly soil microorganisms.

Iron carbide is a compound formed when iron reacts chemically with carbon. Its constituents can only be separated by chemical methods, Whereas, steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, which is a mixture. Its constituents are not bonded chemically.
