About Jeff

About Jeff
I am passionate about art, art history, travel, kittens, and naps. My first job after graduating from The School Of The Art Institute Of Chicago was designing Happy Meals for a now defunct ad agency in Chicago. The job paid well, but I was miserable. I learned very quickly that I could not be creative for someone else during the day and keep my painting practice going at night. Something had to give. Teaching Experience
I taught English as a Foreign Language, Oral English and Writing classes, Studio Art classes, and Contemporary Art History classes in China for 2 years. Although I no longer pursue graphic design as a career, the skill set is still with me. I actively use my knowledge of typography and design in overall look of my website, and other promotional materials which is why I listed Graphic Design in the “Subjects Section.” When I was still in undergrad, I tutored in math, grammar, and reading for low-income community children in Chicago, IL in Fall...

I oversee the operation of a fulltime brick and mortar painting studio with a working woodshop. I also maintain a monthly, internationally read art blog.
Dawang Cultural Highland, English, Studio Art, Art History Teacher
2015 - 2016
I was teaching in several capacities at the Dawang Cultural Highland. Monday through Wednesday, I taught Art Based ESL classes in an afterschool program to local students, usually 1st and 2nd grade. Friday through Sunday I taught advanced painting and drawing to Chinese undergraduate students from Shenzhen University. In addition to painting and drawing, once a month I would teach a class on Post War American Art History to Chinese undergraduate and graduate students who wished to apply to art schools abroad.
Guanhua Primary School, English, Studio Art
2014 - 2015
I was a typical ESL teacher here in that, I designed curriculum, delivered course content in English, and evaluated, assessed, and published grades for Chinese boarding school students grade 3-5. On the kindergarten side of the school, I taught Art Based ESL classes similar in scope to what I would later teach at the Dawang Cultural Highland.
