I want to paraphrase and or summarize aspects of my research report - how can I do this?
Paraphrasing and summarizing are excellent tools to use in writing, especially when it comes to a report. They both condense information, and are both written in your own words, but you have to decide which is most effective for your purpose. Summarizing is to condense information into a smaller section and it only covers the main idea and key points. This is great when you want to condense information that is general. Paraphrasing is a rewriting of a section of work, so if you want to maintain integrity or keep numbers and statistics (maybe from a source), then paraphrasing is an excellent choice. Remember that a paraphrase is the same length as the original.
I am confusing pronouns in my writing, and I don't want to keep losing marks. Help!
Pronouns serve a purpose in a sentence - they replace the noun that was introduced earlier. The tricky aspect is agreement. If the noun is singular, the pronoun must be singular. Jim must use pronouns in his research report. Jim(noun+singular). His(pronoun+singular). Students must use pronouns in their research report. Students(noun+plural). Their(pronoun+plural).
