Question:

What is 2 x 5^2 - 4 x 10^2

Inactive
Daniel M.

In order to solve this problem you will need to follow P (parenthesis) E (exponents) M (multiplication) D (division) A (addition) S (subtraction). There are no parenthesis, so begin with the exponents. 5^2 = 25 and 10^2 = 100. Then continue with multiplication and division from left to right. 2 x 25 = 50 and 4 x 100= 400. After that comes addition and subtraction from left to right. 50 - 400 = -350.

Question:

What is the relationship between atomic radius and ionization energy?

Inactive
Daniel M.

Ionization energy is the energy needed to separate an electron from an atom in gaseous form. As atomic radius increases, ionization energy decreases because the molecular force between the nucleus and electron decreases. A good example of this are noble gases. They have a positive ionization energy because they want to keep their electrons since their outermost shell is complete. As you move down the group, ionization energy increases as atomic radius increases.

Question:

Why does innate immunity have a much faster response time than adaptive immunity?

Inactive
Daniel M.

Innate immunity happens faster because there is no immunological memory and no creation of specific antigen receptors. A good example of that is the skin. Skin protects us from all pathogens. It does not respond differently based on the kind of pathogen. On the other hand, adaptive immunity produces different antibodies based on the pathogen and has immunological memory. That makes the response much slower.
