Answer:

You need to find the equivalent fractions with the same denominator: 4x/3 = 4xy/3y 8/y = 24/3y So: 4x/3y + 8/y = 4xy/3y + 24/3y = (4xy+24)/3y = 4(xy+6)/3y

Question:

Answer:

The mixture of aluminium oxide and molten cryolite melts at a lower temperature than aluminium oxide alone. This then reduces the amount of energy required by the process. Hence leading to reduced costs and expenses.

Question:

There are two types of cell division in eukaryotes. Explain the importance of mitosis in the growth and repair of an organism but meiosis in the production of gametes.

Answer:

Mitosis takes place where it is important for the daughter cells to produce identical cells to the parent cells. Daughter cells must have the same alleles so that genes can be expressed appropriately. The production of identical daughter cells is important in growth, from the embryo, to the foetus till the full mature organism. Also for the repair of damaged cells. On the other hand meiosis is a reduction division that produces daughter cells with half the number (23) of chromosomes as the parent cells. This is important because otherwise if this was the case it would lead to a gamete containing the same number of chromosomes as a parent (46) causing an organism’s chromosome number to double every generation.
