Complete the square, for an equation x^2 + 6x = 0.
Divide x's coefficient (6) by 2, and square the result. Then add the result to both sides of the equation. So that would look like: x^2 + 6x + 9 = 9 And then, factor normally: (x+3)^2 = 9
What does a p-value mean in a significance test?
Operating under the assumption that our null hypothesis is true, our p-value is the probability of getting results as extreme (or more extreme) as the results we obtained in our sample. The smaller the p value, the more unlikely we are to be able to replicate such extreme results if we assume that our null hypothesis is true.
