Question:

How should one effectively transition between paragraphs in an essay?

Inactive
Abigail O.
Answer:

It is important to structure the ideas in your essay in a logical order. A detailed outline helps accomplish this! For good flow, the main idea of each paragraph should connect to or build upon previous points. The first sentence of your new paragraph should connect the previous paragraph to your current idea.

Question:

What is habitat fragmentation, and how does it affect animal populations?

Inactive
Abigail O.
Answer:

Habitat fragmentation occurs when roads or developed land separate patches of an organism's preferred habitat. The habitat patches that remain may not be large enough to sustain the original population. In addition, physical separation of individuals in the population reduces gene flow, and could lead to problems such as inbreeding depression.

Question:

How does cellular reproduction occur in living organisms?

Inactive

Answer:

Cellular reproduction occurs in two ways. Primarily, organisms reproduce cells through the process of mitosis. In mitosis, the cell divides once, producing two duplicate daughter cells. This process is used for growth and repair of the organism. Sexually reproducing organisms produce gametes through another form of cellular reproduction, meiosis. In meiosis, the parent cell divides, and then the two daughter cells divide, producing four haploid cells that are used in sexual reproduction.
