Question:

What is the spontaneous generation hypothesis?

Alexandra C.
Answer:

The spontaneous generation hypothesis claims that life on earth comes from non-living materials. Louis Pasteur famous experiment with swan-neck flasks showed this claim was untrue. Pasteur demonstrated that when he boiled broth in swan-neck flasks (so that something could not easily enter the broth) were not contaminated whereas boiled broth in open flasks were contaminated in a few days. This proved that microorganisms do not appear as a result of spontaneous generation but from when something is introduced.
