What are the three types of plate tectonic boundaries? Explain how they are formed.
Convergent boundaries are formed when two tectonic plates move towards one another, resulting in one tectonic plate being submerged below the another tectonic plate. The Andes Mountains were formed this way. Divergent boundaries are formed when two tectonic plates are moving away from one another, resulting in a newly formed ocean basin which occurs along the Atlantic Ridge. Transform boundaries are formed when two tectonic plates are moving along each other side-by-side but not moving towards or away from one another. The San Andreas Fault is an example of this plate boundary.
When a naked egg is placed in a beaker of water and another naked egg is placed in a beaker of syrup, what will happen to the mass of both eggs and why?
The egg in the beaker of water will increase in mass because water molecules are moving from a lower concentration of solutes outside of the egg to a higher concentration of solutes inside of the egg by way of diffusion, simulating osmosis. The egg in the beaker of syrup will decrease in mass because the water molecules are moving out of the egg and into the syrup because there is a higher concentration of solutes outside of the egg.
