What is the top down method of urban redevelopment?
The top down method occurs when urban planners do not consider the needs and wants of the local community, rather they consider how the city and themselves can profit from urban renewal. These urban planners redevelop neighborhoods in cities to their liking, and to the liking of modernity, thus benefiting from the neighborhood. This may lead current residents in the neighborhood to become displaced due to gentrification.
What is the Sociological Imagination?
The Sociological Imagination allows the Sociologist to put her or hisself to analyze the social structures throughout history that impact particular groups of human beings. To utilize this, one must take themselves out of their monotonous day to day thought patterns, and see how historically built structures have led them to be where they are now. It is all about understanding how the development of social structures overtime impact the larger social context.
What is a behavioral intervention and how is it implemented by a behavior specialist or counselor?
A behavioral intervention identifies a specific, undesired behavior in a human being, and executes a specific plan to redirect that person away from that behavior. A counselor or specialist may implement this by writing a plan of alternative behaviors that the patient can try habitually in place of the undesired behavior. The counselor will begin this intervention with the patient, and then slowly let the patient do it on her/his own. This eventually leads the patient to a pathway to eliminating the undesired behavior from his/her daily life.
