Why is plagiarism so awful in academic writing?

Plagiarism is simply another form of stealing. What's worse, it's stealing and then showing everyone the item you've stolen as if it's your own...yikes! While writing your own original ideas can feel like an overwhelming task, it's nothing a bit of brainstorming can't fix. :) More importantly, when students write something that is entirely their own, many of them feel incredibly proud of their work! It's a wonderful feeling to show other people the words that came from your own heart, experiences, and mind.

I don't like reading, but I have to do it for school! Help! What should I do?
