Question:

How do you do in-text citations for MLA format?

Inactive
Michelle R.
Answer:

You want to write the quote, close it with quotations and then in parenthesis write the authors last name and the page number. The period does not go within the quotation it goes at the end after the authors last name and page number. For examples, "Your quote would be here" (Last name, 2).

Question:

How do you build a body paragraph in an essay?

Answer:

It depends on what kind of essay you are writing. If you are writing and essay analyzing a novel you want to make sure you are taking direct quotes from the book and based off of your thesis in your intro you will want to ask yourself what the purpose of this quote is. Why did the author chose to put this moment in the book? How does this purpose connect with your thesis? Why did it resonate with you. However, if you are writing a personal essay, you can let your body paragraphs flow by specific topics you want to hit. For example, if you are writing a personal essay when applying to universities on how an internship influenced you, you might want to hit three topics in the body of your essay.
