Question:

Choose the answer that grammatically fits in the blank: "J'aime bien les chaussures ______." a) noirs b)noires c)noir

Answer:

The correct answer is b! In French, adjectives must agree with the noun they describe. Since "chaussures" is a feminine noun, and plural, -es needs to be added to the end of "noir" to correctly agree. Answer: "J'aime bien les chaussures noires."

Question:

What is the difference between narrative and persuasive writing? Give an example of each type of writing.

Answer:

A narrative is a piece of writing where the author tells a story, recounting an event that happened in the past. Narratives are usually written in the first person. An example of a narrative is an email to a friend describing an event, such as a party or sports game. Persuasive writing requires an argument. The author states the facts, as well as why they are important, and how they contribute to the author's main point. Persuasive writing is usually written in the third person to sound professional and objective. An example of persuasive writing is a poster explaining why a certain student should be elected as class representative. Another example is a typical academic essay.

Question:

What was the Stamp Act and when was it passed? How is it important in the greater context of American history?

Answer:

The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament in 1765. It created a tax on all legal documents in America by requiring that the document be stamped in order to be considered legitimate. Since the Stamp Act only affected American lives, the US colonists were outraged by what they considered an unjust tax. Colonists across all 13 colonies boycotted paper products and protested the British decision. This was one of the first mass American protests against Britain, contributing to later desires for independence.
