What is parallel structure?
A sentence is written in parallel structure when each clause (two or more) in the sentence is structured the same grammatically and is connected by a coordinating conjunction (and, or, but, etc.). Here's are some examples: Non-parallel: My favorite subjects in school are science, history, and I like math, too. Parallel: My favorite subjects in school are science, history, and math.
What is symbolism?
In a story or a poem, symbolism (or a symbol) is a literary device. A symbol is usually a seemingly common and/or unimportant action or object that represents something much deeper within the story. For example, an author might choose to set their story on a cloudy day to represent the feeling of foreboding.
What is the subject of this sentence: Mary drove to the store in her red convertible.
The subject is Mary. The subject of a sentence is a person, place, or thing (noun) that is doing something. The words "store" and "convertible" are also nouns, but they are not the subject of this sentence because they are not doing anything. Mary is the one who is driving.
