Which enzyme in glycolysis is key to the tight control of the entire glycolytic pathway.
The most important enzyme in the control of glycolysis is Phosphofruktokinase. This enzyme is allosterically inhibited by ATP, which is the net product of glycolysis and the subsequent pathway that glycolysis feeds into. If there is enough ATP concentration, it will stop this pathway by inhibiting this enzyme. Once ATP is depleted then this enzyme will no longer be inhibited and the process can continue.
What are the three different ways that bacterial cells can take up genetic material?
Cells can take up genetic material through various different ways. The first way is through transformation, which is the cellular uptake of free genetic material from the environment. The genetic material that enters will be recombined into the bacteria's chromosome. The second way is through transduction, which is the introduction of new genetic material through the use of a specific virus, called a bacteriophage. Finally, conjugation is the direct transfer of genetic information from one bacteria to another.
