Describe the movement of extracellular fluid (ECF) and intracellular fluid (ICF) as it relates to dehydration and thirst.
The ECF describes fluid that remains outside the cells while the ICF describes fluid inside the cells. At each time, either the ECF or the ICF tends to have a certain about of solutes in comparison to solvents, depending on what we ingest. Usually our intake of solvents tend to settle in the ECF and based of the composition of the ECF, the ICF balances out its needs through the thirst mechanism. To illustrate further, when the ECF has a lot of solutes, it pulls water from the ICF with the attempt of diluting itself to decrase its concentration. This action of pulling from the ICF causes the cells to shrink as they loose fluid to the ECF and therefore trigger the thirst mechanism which then causes human being to ingest water. For example, when we go to the movie theater, we are sold popcorn that contains a lot of salt. Upon ingestion of this popcorn, we cause increased concentration of our ECF, which then causes the pulling water mechanism which then causes us to feel thirsty and continue to drink the big cup of soda we buy.
- In a few words, describe altruism
Altruism is when a person believes or practices in a way that shows that their actions are rooted in the promoting the well being of others rather than themselves. An altruistic individual tends to think about the success and comfort of others before considering his own success or comfort.
- Please describe to what extent individuals shape the society as a whole
- Among many other reasons, the main contribution of individuals to the society is rooted in the uniqueness each person possesses. The differences between each individual helps to promote growth and prosperity of the society because it allows for recognition of the different perspectives that exist. These different perspectives give each person the opportunity to learn something new about someone else, thereby increasing their knowledge and diversification. This ultimately contributes to a society that is made up of knowledgeably diverse individuals who foster society growth.
