How do you create an engaging thesis?
Creating a thesis is perhaps one of the most difficult challenges in academic writing. A student will often begin his/her writing process by thinking about what his/her thesis should be. The most effective way to create your thesis is to begin by reflecting on the patterns and key concepts in the text or subject matter you are writing about. Gathering evidence and pinpointing the main themes of a text first will prevent a student from using a thesis that the text does not actually support. Secondly, a student must make sure that his/her thesis is arguable. If the thesis presents an assertion that absolutely cannot be argued against, then the thesis is a statement of fact rather than an argument.
Subject: Political Science
What skills do you need to be a successful political science student?
Students studying political science must have keen analytical and critical thinking skills in order to be successful in the field. This discipline requires students to not only explain political events and legislative processes, but also assess how these events and processes impact communities, states, and countries.
Why is it important to actively read?
When students actively read, they engage with the main ideas and key concepts of the text more thoroughly. It is easier for a student to notice patterns and think more deeply about the overall theme of the text when actively reading. Actively reading subsequently makes a student more prepared for writing assignments, exams, and class discussions as she/he has already spent the time to reflect on the text in-depth.
