Question:

The larger of two integers is 5/2 the smaller. If twice the smaller is subtracted from twice the larger, the difference is 12. Find the two numbers.

Olufisayo A.
Answer:

this can be covected to equation mode, let x be the large number and y be the smaller number equation 1 ; x= 2.5*y equation 2: x-2y=12 substitute for x in equation 1 for equation 2, 2.5y-2y=12 0.5y=12 hence y equals 24 ,substitute back in equation 1, x= 60

Question:

A gas has a pressure of 1atm and volume is 2L , after compression, the new volume is 3L, Calculate the new pressure at constant temperature

Olufisayo A.
Answer:

For this question, Boyles law is used . it occurs at constant temperature ,the initial condition and final condition has been stated, input in boyles, p1v1=p2v2 . where 1 is the initial condition and 2 is the final condition. making p2 the subject of the formula, the final pressure is 2/3atm

Question:

For a dehydration operation, the feed has a flowrate of 100kg/h and a mole percent of 15 of NaCl. What is the Concentration of the product if water is removed at a rate of 10kg/h

Olufisayo A.
Answer:

Draw a PFD to better understand the flow, do a total mass balance on the flow i.e In- Out = accumulation, in this case, there is no accumulation hence equal to zero, therefore, the flowrate of the product is 100-10= 90kg/h. Next is to do a component material balance on NaCl, i.e 0.15*100= 90* concentration of the product therefore the concentration of the product is 0.167, which is 16.7%
