Hello! My name is David Guzman. I am currently a graduate student at the University of Houston. I've completed two of five years in my Ph.D. program, and I study U.S. history broadly with a specific focus on the antebellum era. I enjoy teaching, learning different languages (currently Vietnamese), and running.

Because our classes are rather large (around 300 students or so per semester), my duties are to assist the professor with everyday tasks, as well as hold four IA-led discussion sections once a week comprising of twenty-five students each. The Center for Public History at the University of Houston publishes fall and spring issues of the Houston History Magazine. I am the managing editor for the Fall issue, which will center the lived experiences of Hurricane Harvey survivors through oral interviews.
