About Maddy

About Maddy
With ultimate career goals of becoming a children's/teen's librarian, education and information sharing is very important to me! I worked as a teaching assistant at UCLA for two years while getting my master's degree, and in that time I taught over 300 students and consistently received positive quarterly reviews. I also have had experience working with children from 0-16 years old in as varied environments as nannying, summer camps, and children's bookstores. I hope to be a good fit for you and to set you on the path to success!

Teaching Experience

Teaching Experience
My most recent teaching experience has been as a teaching assistant for a Biomedical Ethics course at UCLA for two years. While the subject is niche, my duties largely included breaking down complex ideas for students who were very new to philosophy, and teaching STEM students how to succeed in the humanities. I have also done more informal teaching and tutoring in the past of middle school, high school, and college students.

Work Experience

Work Experience
Children's Book World, Bookseller
2018 - Present
As a bookseller at Children's Book World, my focus is on connecting children of all ages to literature that will spark curiosity and a passion for reading. As such, I am very familiar with contemporary children's and young adult literature, and have experience working with children of all reading levels to find suitable material for both their interest and abilities.
UCLA, Teaching Assistant
2018 - 2020
As a teaching assistant for Biomedical Ethics, I taught three sections per quarter of 20 students each. This consisted of leading one-hour discussions every week on a variety of controversial topics, as well as giving students one-on-one assistance in weekly office hours, and grading about 180 exams per quarter.
UC San Diego Bookstore, Team Lead/Trade Books Staff
2014 - 2018
In my years at the UC San Diego bookstore, I went from being a student associate to working as staff for the trade books department. In all of my positions, I was focused on customer service and connecting students with the materials they needed for research or leisure reading. I additionally went on to train a team of seven student staff while managing the sales floor and assisting with book buying duties.
